Barring another writers strike, the new season of 24 will commence in January, 2009. I wonder if the year without 24 will have affected their audience or if it will cause enough curiousity to bring people back? What do you think?

I don't think the year's hiatus will erode fan support for Jack Bauer and the CTU team a great deal. The show's faithful watchers understood that the producers couldn't just air part of Day Seven and then leave them hanging with no further episodes till the upcoming 2009 season.

What WILL turn off those fans - myself included - is if Joel Surnow and Howard Gordon and the producers/writers of 24 give us a repetitive rehash of themes like they did for Day (Season) Six. The basic premise of the Russian Nationalists' unholy alliance with Islamic terrorists was good, and so was the whole Bauer family dynamic, but so many plot points were borrowed from other Days that it was yawn-worthy. Another assassination attempt on a President Palmer, another power grab by a Vice President, another OMG-CTU is-infilitrated moment, another nuke attempt against LA....I love the show and I forgave the writers for that season, but if they don't get out of the LA city limits more and get rid of some 24 cliches, I may not watch the show after the 2009 season.

I wouldn't exactly call "24" a "nice" show. A good show, in the sense that it's (normally) well-written, well-directed, and well-acted, yeah. But it's violent and features scenes of torture and mayhem...
