My 10-year-old son is certainly aware of 80s new-wave music, given that my wife and I both have tastes that skew in that direction. Much to our surprise, though, he's a huge Michael Jackson fan. I don't know quite where that came from. The only other 20th century music he's gotten into is the Beatles.

Out of curiosity, what are your son's favorites from the 80s?

Yes my children who are ages 11,9, and 6 all love music from the 80s. My daughter who is the 6 year old is an extreme Michael Jackson fan She listens to all of his music but especially the stuff he produced in the 80s. These children know that the music of today sucks so they would much rather listen to classic oldies. They are my kids for sure. :)

He's loved the Beatles since he was little. He asked for the Beatles greatest hits CD for Christmas when he was 7 and really enjoys old Jazz like Ella and Louis Armstrong too. As for the 80's, he enjoys MJ, but its really song specific for him so the others are pretty random. The last song he purchased from iTunes was Jenny (8675309)...He plays drums, guitar, keys and sings, so, its interesting to see how he pics different styles over the kids his age.

That's really great, he's got good taste! And if he keeps up with playing, being familiar with such a variety of music will serve him well.

My kids love 80s music and so do I and my spouse! I have watched them at parties using 80s music as well and this is really entertaining. Since I grew up in the 80s myself, I enjoy seeing that what we listened to was not only appealing to us.

I was in college in the 80's. I never really liked that pretty boy male look..preppy? I did not listen to the nu-wave stuff by choice but when it is all around..what can you do? But I guess The Pretenders were on then? Hmmm...I guess there were some bands that made a mark that lasted. I came from the Boston, Molly Hatchet, Outlaws era.. Dare I mention Black Oak Arkansas?
