A new Freddy Krueger?

With the new Nightmare on Elm Street set to start this Thursday it should be interesting to see if Jackie Earle Haley can fill the shoes of Robert Englund. Call me old fashion but I think they should have stuck with Englund if for no other reason to have at least one cast name that would be a draw. Maybe you get what you pay for cast wise in dunno?

What do you think, should they have kept Englund because he is the horror icon of Freddy or was a makeover truly needed?

I have been trying to think of other movie icon makeovers that worked and I really can not think of one anyone have any they thought were better as a makeover?

What would be the point of a remake if you're using the same cast? Also Englund is like in his 60s now. Also the more recent Freddy movies got to be more cartoonish and less serious and I think they were trying to get away from that connotation.

I don't think any remake will stack up with the classic Nightmare on Elm Street. I haven't heard to much about this project though to be honest.

It might be good it might not. It does show Freddie BEFORE he gets killed. So a little back story is nice. Some people don't find out about things until right before they open. Some people like me have known about this for over a year. I saw the first trailer probably 5-6 months ago.

I guess it all depends on what movies you see or if you're looking for specific trailers. I guess I missed out this time around. But it could be interesting, who knows for sure. If you go into a movie and expect it to suck but it doesn't it's a lot better than when you go in expecting it to be cool, but sucks.

Really? I didn't know that. You may have a point though as I thought I would hate some of the new star wars movies and in the end I actually liked a few of them. I guess what bothered me with Freddy was the voice is not as deep and grumbly as Englunds, it really added to the horror feel, but hey if he was young it would be higher right? I don't think that 60 is old for an actor, it is like the new 40 ya know, Englund did okay in the Freddy vs Jason one and as far as old actors go, well william shatner is like 79 can you believe it

I still haven't seen it yet from what I have heard from my friends that have is that it is actually quite good. I personally don't see any remake living up to the original but if it keeps my interest I will give it a shot.

Remakes are rarely ever as good as the original, unless the creative team from the first movie is involved in the remake. Cecil B. DeMile's The Ten Commandments is a good example of this.

Definitely not, but sometimes remakes are really good. I will give the new Freddy a chance....at least it's not another movie remaking an old Tv show.
