Computer with analog tuner DTV Work Around

I had an extra HP computer around the house outfitted with an older analog TV tuner that as you all know won't be good after the transition. One thing important about the tuner is that it has a input which allows you to connect a cable or satellite or VCR or even a DVD to it.

So I took a Insignia NS-DXA1 Converter, connected an antenna to it, and connected it to the input on the back of my TV card. And BINGO. Instant digital-to-analog conversion. :) Just thought I'd take a few minutes to share. It can be done and I know there are a lot of cheap alternatives too for digital PC tuners, but I haven't seen a lot of people talking about this on forums.

Good and interesting. I think you are the first one I heard that tried that!)

You can pick up pretty good USB or ATSC cards in the $30 to $50 range. I got luckly and found a USB ATSC only on Ebay for $25.

But right now is a really bad time to buy. It may or maynot get cheaper again. So many people were waiting to the last minute a lot of stuff was very cheap from about March to a month ago. It's all gone back up.

I gave away my analog tuner, bundled with an infrared remote and USB receiver. That thing made my computer run slow when I had the tuner on, anyways. I thought it would record in progressive mode, but it only runs in interlaced mode. I need an HDTV type tuner. Anything that's not interlaced.

You can hook your converter box to anything that has a Coax/Composite ports on it. A Studio monitor, a Projector, a camping tv, a pocket tv (with a balun).

Enjoy.
