Question: DVD player flicker image when turn on progressive scan

i have an DVD recorder Philips and when i turn on the progressive scan the TV screen flicks, my TV is a Panasonic Plasma and the DVD is connected via Video Component cable , i actually am using an General electric cable for Video component and still the same before used a i do not remember the cable brand, but my question is

is this normal?

the flick is so annoying that i have the DVD in interlaced mode.

any answer would be welcomed
