How to get rid of mosquitoes in my house!

I have had mosquitoes buzzing around freely in my house for about a week now and they're eating me and my family alive! For some reason the little buggers like to go for the ankles, and we've resorted to wearing socks around, but they still manage to get through them. 2-3 days ago we bought repellent, but it's only a temporary fix because once it wears off, they start attacking us again.

What can we do to get them out of the house??? :Cry: :( :duh:

i have a similar problem with Black flies. and if you think a mosquito bites that is nothing compared to blackfly bites! those leave itches sorta like chiggers on your ankles and feet for days

Right now, with a half-dozen mosquito bites from the outdoor engagement party last night, I'm thinking nothing can be worse. I'm in such maddening discomfort.

Try to buy those mosquitoe candles, I heard that helps temporarily. Also, make sure you do not have any damp cloths or soaking rags anywhere in the house. They like to hide out there.

I've been a hit few times on hikes up at Indian River, Michigan. They actually leave welts on my ankles. Jeans are always a good idea.

As for the OP, have you tried to fumigate your house/apartment yet? Bug bomb possibly? Sounds like a huge annoyance.

Go and buy a bomb for each room. Shut all of the doors and windows and light them up. Don't leave anything you want to survive though it in there. Pets, plants, inlaws, etc.

Fish tanks need to be considered too. Cover them with plastic tarp with the air pump off. Fish tanks are the hard part as the air must be totally cleared before the air pump can be started again.

PS.. Don't let me give you any ideas on what to do with the inlaws. :cheesy:

You've seen that movie, RV right? the one with Robin Williams? remember the 'bug bomb?' needless to say it's fine if you want your home uninhabitable for about 24-48 hours.

I try to keep windows shut (even though they have screens i never trusted them) and only open the door to go out and then back in. not leaving it open or relying on the storm door.

Don't leave trash bins inside. yes, inside. those things attract just about anything which flies, and ants, too. that and don't leave dirty dishes in the sink or air dry them; moisture attracts them a lot.

Try pouring vinegar into the sink drains. that takes care of any insects which breed in the filthy drains. since Mosquitoes are indeed a type of 'hover fly' they breed from maggots just the same.

Trivia fun: only the female bites for blood. the males feed on nectar.

Here's a little simple solution: Find out where the little bastards are coming from, and -then- plug those up, load with poison etc, and live well.

Mosquitoes, contrary to popular belief and personal experience, are incapable of teleportation. So find out how they get in, and seal the place up. I live in the country, and I don't have any bug problems indoors. I might get the odd roach, but never mosquitoes.

This is an ongoing problem everywhere. I have little gnats that pop out at night when the windows are open (even with small screens, they get in). Hate the things. Keep having to swat them against my computer monitor.

I also experienced the same problem. What I did is that I asked someone to clean the entire house. Afterwards, I also asked people from the anti-pest company to spray the house with a good mosquito killer. I even had screendoors installed. My house was mosquito for a few months. But now they're back. :(

Here's an old cure-all for bug bite - after washing the bite with soap and water, apply cider vinegar to the welt. My Grandmother used it on us kids and it always helped reduce the itching and inflammation. Try it if you are so inclined but remember I am not a health care professional and do not accept responsibility, unless of course it works for you.

A word of caution using bug bombs if you have security/fire monitoring. Please be sure to cover the devices as well. We set the bombs off, set the alarm and left the premises, only to have a call from the police about the alarm sounding.

I believe they are most likely coming from your drains. I have the same problem right now in the house I just moved to. For the most part, I only see them in the bathroom & sometimes the kitchen. Keeping my drains plugged unless I am showering, washing dishes, etc., has definitely helped. I am thinking I will buy some of those doughnut- shaped mosquito dunks from Home Depot or somewhere that you toss into water to rid it of mosquitos. [They are too big to use without breaking into much smaller pieces.] As for the bites, if you're desperate, (this might sound crazy, but it works), you can dab clear nail polish over the bites to seal them up & stop the obscene itching.
