Awesome! Make sure the cable you buy is RG6, not RG59. Curious - do you get Fox?

How would I tell the difference in the cables that I already have? I had a shorter one that was actually already hooked into my tv and then just hanging.. assuming from when I did have cable and the cable company hooked it up. Would this likely be the right one? It's the one I was planning to use as I'd likely have to re-arrange or the cord would lay on the ground over a frequently used hallway..

Not sure about Fox, I will definitely let you know once I hook it back up again. Should be later tonight.

Pretty likely. You might want to buy a longer cord just to be able to move the TV around a little. The good, tri or quad shielded rg-6 is pretty thick and rough to the touch.

It's cheap as dirt on eBay.

We'd like to see a complete list of all the stations you're getting. Use the call letters for all the x.1 channels. We don't need the subchannels (9.2 ... 9.3 ...)

It doesn't hurt to scan for analog channels as well. There's two you can get. They might be fun. :thumb:

Newer cable company cables are RG6. You'll often find the cheaper RG59 sold in dollar stores and such. It is okay for short runs with a cable provider, but with an antenna and longer runs, you want to use low-loss RG6.

I would run an analog scan, too - but I doubt she'll get anything. The 2 strong analog channels are listed as "silent".

It looks like you've got about everything available in your area! I'm glad we could be of help. I know that TV fool still shows some analog channels in my area I have done enough antenna work to know that in my area they have been gone for a couple of years. Antenna web is much worse they still show temporary pre transition channels as being available.

I don't see any PBS stations on your list, Melissa (KTCT or KTCA). Too bad! It seems like those should be possible with a roof antenna, but it's hard to tell with 2 edge signals with NM down in the teens like that.

Hope there are many happy hours of TV viewing in your future.

Melissa, I had to use Google to learn that TPT stands for Twin Cities Public Television KTCA and KTCI. Why would you do that to me when I asked for call letters?? Some people's kids ...

You have to understand -- since I'm a fool, if it's not in the Fool report, it doesn't exist for me.

LOL!

Only reason I was able to give the call numbers I did was because they showed up next to the channel number on my tv screen. As far as I was aware tpt was a call number.

I went and hooked up my sisters last night and her tv didn't even give the call numbers. So, I guess you got my lucky my TV did.

Thanks again for all your help! Last night was the first time in like 4 years I got to watch Criminal Minds as it aired on TV!
