Who prefers the real reality shows like Cops and Bait Car, etc rather than ones I consider staged, like Survivor, etc. I know that they aren't especially scripted, but they are not as real as the previous ones mentioned.

I much more so prefer the more polished, more entertaining shows, like Survivor, to the type of reality show where they just throw whatever happens up on the screen, like Cops. I can get my fill of "real" reality from the Nightly News.

Cops is the best

Cops is one of my favorite shows. I don't enjoy many of the reality shows like american idol. Just my point of view. I am an avid user of scanners an have been for almost 30 yrs, hense my love for cops.

I must have missed this somehow otherwise I would have posted my Cake Boss rant here. Seems like most reality shows are staged these days. I'd like to get a behind the scenes look at how many times the show producers have the "Reality" actors redo shots or coach them on how to react in certain scenes.

I can't stand any of them, staged or maybe real. To me a reality show is more like watching space walks on the NASA channel. Staged a little though more real Whale Wars on Animal Planet.

I think the reason they are so popular are people lack any thing in their own lives they consider exciting. Same concept as watching soap operas.

I think that confuses reality television with news. They're two different things; hence the different names.

Same concept with all entertainment programming, all the way up to and including NCIS, the Mentalist, Mad Men, and Dexter.

As I've said before, I do like a lot of reality shows, but definitely not all. I like some of the contest shows -- Next Iron Chef, Top Chef, American Idol, Amazing Race, etc. Now the editing is sometimes something I have issue with. Even Amazing Race that is so critically acclaimed edits things a certain way. I hate a show once favorites begin to take over with the judges. Dancing with the Stars judges will favor their favorites in scoring rather than being fair to everyone equally, and that bothers me a great deal. I also think Top Chef favors the men too much.
