There's a new over-the-air DVR going in sale in the spring of 2012.

Called the Simple.tv DVR

What we know so far:

  [*=left]$5 month to use DVR service

The fee reminds me of TiVo in the early days. Without a subscription, TiVo worked like a VCR. If you got a monthly or lifetime sub you could then use the EPG and schedule recordings and series.

Now that stuff is basic functionality and included in pretty much all DVRs. Also, a lot of DVRs are offering this without a monthly fee.

I won't give them very long on the market. They'll fill a small niche but with TiVo's new deals you can do better.
