Stream from PC to Roku?

Is there a way that my Roku can stream files from my PC?

Though I have not tried that, it seems that the Roku3 would be the best candidate for that, given it has a USB port.

Mediamall (Playon) has a server program and Roku channel called "MyMedia." There is also a server program and channel from "Plex" that will do similar things. I use MyMedia and Playon. MyMedia (and Plex) are free. A Playon lifetime license costs around $50.

Did you try PlayOn before going with Plex? I'm about to subscribe to either of those services, wasn't sure which to get.

PlayOn is PC only. In order to run it on a Mac I would need additional software like Parallels to take advantage of it.

PLEX and PLEX PASS

I use PLEX and it streams anything I want to ROKU 3. It is a free program, PLEX PASS costs a little bit but is worth it, I can stream anything on my PC to my Iphone 4S with the free PLEX app anywhere I have good signal, usually wifi like Starbucks.

monthly cost for plex pass is 3.99. Annual is 29.99. Lifetime one time charge is 74.99. I chose monthly for now to make sure it works for me and it does, will switch to annual soon.

Thanks for the heads up. Plex is free and the Plex Pass is what you pay for. I just cancelled my subscription. The free Plex does more than enough for me.

I have to say that I use PlayOn a lot more than Plex.

PlayOn is well worth the one time price, I watch Colbert and The Daily Show 4 nights a week on Hulu free, as well as watching YouTube videos on Roku, and the free android PlayOn app lets me watch on tablet anywhere in the house. But- PlayOn is not available for Apple.

If you just want to stream media from your PC or Apple, or if you prefer a pretty and organized interface for your media, Plex is great.

Is there any advantage to using Plex? I have Playon with the HD package. I can stream off the internet, and my own network, in HD. Does the Plex system offer anything that I'm missing with Playon?

Plex has an available app that is free, also from the app you can chromecast. not sure if you can do that from play on. I have tried playon and really prefer plex.
