Interesting story. I remember watching an automotive video online. It was about a Ford plant in South America. It was amazing how the parts suppliers actually had space in the factory. They also put the parts on the car! They were right there making sure their parts were fitting properly. The plant operated so efficiently and at less cost than in the US. The story mentioned that unions prevented Ford from doing a similar thing in the US.

Speaking of coal. Last Fall I took a drive up to Northern PA for a cabin weekend with a bunch of guys. We drove past an interesting coal plant. It really was not large, footprint wise. The stack was huge. Everything was pretty clean for something that handles coal. One of the guys told us the plant would be closed under the current plan. I guess the electricity will have to flow from another source on the grid.
