Pricing for a decent 55" HDTV still remains around $1,300. There are some cheap options available but picture quality will suffer as well as the all important refresh rate. If you watch sports or play video games, you'll want a minimum 1080p resolution and 120hz refresh rate for sure.
Top of the line 55" HDTV
Samsung UN55F6400 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz 3D Slim Smart LED HDTV
Cost
This Samsung is fully loaded, and rated pretty well among reviews on cnet and other professional websites. 1080p, 120mhz, and smart TV equipped. This HDTV also comes with 3D capability but the glasses are sold separate.
Top pick for 55" HDTV
Samsung UN55FH6030 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz Slim LED HDTV
Cost
This is my favorite HDTV of the bunch. You basically get the same specs as the above without 3D and wifi connection. You save almost $500 without those two things, plus the Roku would add a better experience for $100 anyway than Samsung's smart TV apps.
Budget 55" HDTV
VIZIO E550i-A0 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz Smart HDTV
Cost
1080p and 120hz refresh rate for less than $800. I've seen some good reviews on this HDTV too though some complain about bright dark scenes in movies.
