What channels do you get by antenna?

WLS-TV has shut off their VHF signal, but problems still plague this station after over 3 1/2 years. Not everyone is getting them on RF 44 like those in the far western & far southern suburbs & in rural NW Indiana. These people were getting them better on RF 7. While I get them on RF 44, it has broken up a lot, & has been worse since returning to the Sears Tower. Seems to me that it's getting interference from WCPX on RF 43 & WSNS on RF 45, who all broadcast from the Sears Tower. At least for me, RF 44 worked a bit better from the John Hancock.
I dont know how old your current TV is, but newer ATSC tuners apparently deal with adjacent channel interference much better than older versions.

Co-located adjacent channels should not be causing any interference issues. Your antenna may be sitting in a weak spot for RF 44's signal & will likely benefit from moving up or down a few inches to find a better sweet spot.

Co-located adjacent channel assignments are the norm in many areas to help reduce interference issues with 2nd & 3rd market stations. We have a 200 watt channel 8 wedged in between two blowtorch 52,000 watt stations (7 & 9) with no adjacent channel issues here in DC.

Here's the thing. It's not just me that has had problems with WLS-TV on RF 44, but many other people too. The last UHF transmission antenna they installed was so high gain, that no one within 10 miles of the Sears Tower could get the station, & those who were more than 30 miles from downtown Chicago complained about dropouts. They replaced that antenna with their current one, & it still doesn't seem to be ready. Moving my antenna up or down won't solve WLS-TV's problem. The problem is on their end. Ever since they decided to go to RF 44, RF 43 became a problem too from time to time. It wasn't as bad when they were on the John Hancock, & maybe they need to stay on the John Hancock. Since they've lost OTA users (based on the comments on their website), they're putting in an STA to turn back on RF 7, while they try to fix the signal problems. I believe they would have been better off staying on VHF & applying for a UHF translator (as they originally planned to), instead of being on RF 44. Before, the complaints were primarily in the city of Chicago. Now, most complaints are from the suburbs.

I'm a little surprised; WLS has always been good to me. It's always been on RF 44 -- I never had any kind VHF antenna. I live 48 miles north of the Willis/Sears tower, and I just use a cheap little indoor antenna for those Chicago stations. I don't often tune to WLS, but whenever I do, signal strength is "Good" according to the Insignia converter -- almost as strong as WGN.

I have some updates to my list.

5.2 Cozi TV (replaced Nonstop, & now widescreen)

WLS-TV has shut off their VHF signal, but problems still plague this station after over 3 1/2 years. Not everyone is getting them on RF 44 like those in the far western & far southern suburbs & in rural NW Indiana. These people were getting them better on RF 7. While I get them on RF 44, it has broken up a lot, & has been worse since returning to the Sears Tower. Seems to me that it's getting interference from WCPX on RF 43 & WSNS on RF 45, who all broadcast from the Sears Tower. At least for me, RF 44 worked a bit better from the John Hancock.

13.1 4 WOCK-CD (Mundo Fox) (720p)
13.2 WOCH-CA simulcast
13.3 mostly infomercials
13.4 Weather Nation
13.5 Mega TV

20.3 Mhz Worldview is now widescreen

25.1 25 W25DW-D (HSN)
25.2 TVC+ Latino
25.3 Sonlife TV
25.4 QVC (replaced Punch TV, which was placed on this channel at the beginning of this year)
25.5 LATV
25.6 Almavision
25.7 Wizebuys (infomercials)

38.4 Shop TV (infomercials)

40.2 Inmigrante TV (added after WSNS dropped the channel)

44.2 Éxitos TV
44.3 was dropped completely.

56.1 17 WYIN (PBS) (now 1080i) (licensed to Gary, IN & serves NW Indiana)
56.3 is still Lakeshore Kids
56.2 & 56.4 shut off for now.

What I listed have been what's on these channels since my last update. Otherwise, those channels are still the same.
I'm going to update my post again, as there were some changes in the last few months in the Chicago market.

Tribune Broadcasting took over This TV, & WGN-TV now carries This TV on 9.3

WTTW still carries Create on 11.3, but now splits the broadcast day with The World Channel. Create is now on from 7am - 8pm, & World from 8pm - 7am. Also since that last update, WTTW Prime on 11.2 is now in SD widescreen.

WOCK-CD dropped Mega TV from 13.5, & replaced it with Soul Of The South. I just found out that 13.3 is Veria Living, a lifestyle digi-network, competing with Ion Life & Livewell Network.

WYCC dropped their simulcast on 20.2 with FNX Experience, a network about Native Americans, & found on select PBS stations.

W25DW-D dropped QVC not too long after Ion Media reached a deal to carry QVC on their stations (I'll get to that in a moment). So 25.4 just shows color lines (like when stations used to go off the air).

WCIU dropped This TV from 26.5 when Tribune Broadcasting took it over. They moved Bounce over to 26.5 from WWME-LD 23.2, though it's still be simulcasting on WWME-LD 23.2 for now. Also on WCIU 26.2, The U Too is now Widescreen SD, while the HD version is now on WMEU-CD 48.1. MeToo looks to be just a subchannel to WCIU, though it's now carried on WWME-CA 23, the sole station that Weigel has kept running in Chicago (unless WMEU-LP 48 is still on the air, but at such low power, that mainly those closest to the Sears Tower can get it, to protect WMLW in Milwaukee & WHME-TV in South Bend).

WCPX, which is owned by Ion Media, & carries everything that other Ion stations carry. They first added HSN to 38.5, then added QVC to 38.6. With those additions, it looks like Ion Media has dropped Airbox from their station's bandwidth (which was MPEG4, & was supposed to be a pay TV service, but I don't believe it ever got off the ground).

WMEU-CD 48.1 is now carrying The U Too, which is mostly time shifted programming from WCIU 26.1, & in HD, while the SD simulcast is on WCIU 26.2 in widescreen. 48.2 carries Touchvision, which is supposed to be anchorless news. I don't know how well this network is turning out for the creators of Touchvision, which leases space at Weigel's Chicago studios.

WPWR-TV added 2 subchannels to their station, Movies (the new diginetwork that Weigel Broadcasting & Fox are partners) on 50.2, & Mundo Fox simulcast on 50.3 (HD version is on WOCK-CD 13.1). Both subchannels are in widescreen SD.

WESV-LD 40.1 still carries Estrella TV, but it's now in 720p HD.

I just lost LWN and gained COZI in its place (KSL 5.2) (YEA!)
I've lost TUFF and RTV on my local LP. Channel 39 has moved to 15 - They eliminated their 15.4 sub (TUFF) and replaced RTV 15.3 with infomercials.
I've gained 20.1-20.4 (Religious, infomercials, and BIZ TV) and 24.1 KPNZ (Spanish, Estrella) when I put up my DB8e.

I forgot to mention that since WPVN-CD moved their transmission to the Trump Tower in Downtown Chicago from Schaumburg, I now get WPVN-CD on RF 20. Here's what I get on WPVN-CD:

24.1 Tuff TV (used to be Retro TV)
24.2 Heartland, formerly The Nashville Network (was Tuff TV)
24.3 Peace TV (was TNN)
24.4 Polvision (Polish language programming, both produced locally, & from Poland)
24.5 Win TV (Not sure what this one is, but it's ethnic programming)
24.6 MC-TV (Korean Religious)
24.7 KBS World (Korean)

Once the affiliation agreements are up for Tuff TV & Heartland, I expect these diginetworks to be dropped as well. Polnet already dropped Retro TV I believe back in July. Polnet seems to want to serve the underserved ethnic communities, rather than cater to the English language community, as there are plenty of broadcasters that can market to them.

I'm new to the game -- currently, I am using a cheapie $10 window antenna and receiving most of the channels in my market (St. Louis) with varying degrees of success.

Planning on doing a major antenna upgrade so that I can pull-in those LOS stations (and others) a little bit better...

Wow! You're just about perfectly situated to pick up the majority of stations in your market! You lucky dog, you!

Just remember TV Fool is an estimate. It doesn't know if there are trees, buildings, or large bodies of water reflecting/blocking signals.

JB2K,

You ran your Chart at 25', that lends us to believe you want to go outside with your antenna ?
Do you have a 2 Story House, or are you intending to use a Mast ?

Even with a single story House, you could use a Eve Mount, or "J" Mount on the roof.
If single story, try running your Chart at 15' and see how that effects your reception.

CBS & Decades 2.1 2.2 different Rabbit ear orientation from
NBC & Cozi 5.1 5.2
ABC BeWell & Laff 7.1 7.2 7.3 (rarely watch last two
WGN Antenna & This 9.1 9.2 9.3
WTTW TTWPrime & Create 11.1 11.2 11.3 lately not well received with orientation of other channels
PBS & World 20.1 20.3 frequently give difficulty to pick up, esp. Sat.PM
Movee WinTV KBS 24.1 24.5 24.7 most sought after but bad reception even with Trump Tower
CIU CIUtoo METV METoo (H&I)Bounce 26.1 26.2 26.3 26.4 26.5 give best reception
Fox 32.1 usually good reception
ion ionlift 38.1 38.2 recently not picked up at all
Charge Comet 41.1 41.2 esp.like the latter but no reception for the last 18 mos.
CW50(& Fox 2) Movies Buzzr 50.1 50.2 50.4 good reception
Escape 60.2 rarely use but reception rarely good anyway
GetTV Grit (Waltker TV) 66.2 66.3 relatively good but latter not interesting except for Zane Grey & Death Valley

Location: zip code 60660, Chicago North Shore Edgewater
Do I need boosted antenna, flat or otherside for reception esp. for ch24? Will EM interference of City interfere when plugged in to power grid for weak signals?
