Why Is It Needed

What makes this new upgrade needed? I thought everything was going good with the normal reception people had with the antennas. Is the government just attempting to make people spend a little bit more money?

Digital TV, from what I understand, will give a much better picture to the tv itself. Some of the analog channels were very sketchy and sometimes hard to even see. This digital transition will provide ease of viewing for almost everyone.

I hope our picture gets better because it's pretty choppy now. I guess we'll jst have to wait and see.

it's entirely up to the broacaster. Some show better picture motion detail, other chop it to conserve bandwidth either by choice, or due to forced equipment "caps." I've experienced such devices & software with restrictions like that - if you want it to put out more, you have to buy a "gigabyte pack" which plugs in and feeds a command to raise the output of the datastream. This was done for the old now-retired "First Class BBS" software.

Apparantly, the analog is going to be needed for certain services, such as emergency services, and antennae are now considered to be an obsolete technology. Most people won't even be affected by it, since a lot of people have cable or simply don't watch TV.
